What the franchise fee does NOT include.
We do not pay for you DBS check
We do not pay for any of your DVSA tests or licences (Pink or Green)
We do not pay for any of your running costs. Fuel, insurance, road tax, maintenance and repairs etc are your responsibility.
It is also your responsibility to account for your earnings.
You will need to consider and account for profit or loss on your turnover with the HMRC and submit self assessment returns every financial year.
Any tax or National Insurance contributions are solely your responsibility.
Items that you must be made aware of!
The contract is 18 months in duration and is payable in full whether you qualify or not.
If you choose to leave the franchise before the end of the duration, then the fees will still be payable.
This will be due to the fact that you did not pay for the training that you may have already received and any accompanying outlay that we may have made for training materials etc on your behalf.
We are not a ruthless company and would therefore permit stage payments if you choose to leave the franchise early.
If you have signed a contract but have only began the Part 1 training then a third of the overall 18 month contact would be payable in full.
If you have signed a contract and have began the Part 2 training then two thirds of the overall 18 month contract would be payable in full
If you have signed a contract and have began the part 3 training then the full 18 month contract period would be payable in full.
Other important factor you will need to consider.
Before signing anything with us, you must check that you fit the criteria required by the DVSA to become an instructor and whether it is for you.
A quick check can be carried out here https://www.safedrivingforlife.info/driving-instructor-suitability-assessment/
It is also important that you read this section from the Gov.uk website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/whats-involved-in-being-a-driving-instructor/approved-driving-instructor-adi-register-guide
For the Part 1 section, you can take as long as is necessary to build your knowledge and can take as many attempts as is necessary to pass it.
Once you have passed this test, you will have 2 year to have trained and completed both the Part 2 and 3 tests.
If you do not complete them within the two year period, you will have to start the whole process again as your theory certificate will have expired.
For the Part 2 we recommend that you undergo the training for this while you are also training for your Part 1 test. This will then allow you time to practice those skills that you have been taught and to hone them to a high standard in your everyday driving while learning the theory of driving. By the time you are ready to take the Part 2 test, you should be a comfortable and very confident driver to be capable of driving to a high standard without effort.
This will make passing your Part 2 test very easy.
You are permitted three attempts at your Part 2 test. If you fail all three, you have to begin the whole test process again, but will have to wait until 2 years have expired from the date that you passed the theory test.
For the Part 3. Driving instructors are under no obligation to have any training at all and could apply for the Part 3 test as soon as they have passed the Part 2 test.
However, as a franchisee, your training will include of 40 hours in-car training which is mandatory for all our franchisees.
If we consider that you are at a standard to pass your Part 3, we will allow you to book your test. If you are not at the standard we will offer you additional training, or you can always request additional training. This will obviously incur additional training costs at our hourly rate.
We will NEVER hold you back from taking the test, but the standard required is high and this is reflected in the lower pass rates, historical at 35-39%.
We want you to pass first time, not only to save you money, but to know that you are at a standard to be able to go it alone with confidence once you have passed.
If you find after passing your part 2 and having taken your 40 hours of training that you still having trouble in certain areas of your instructing techniques, we will obviously support you, but you will also have the option to apply for a trainee licence from the DVSA. If approved, this will allow you to teach and charge for the lessons you deliver. The licence lasts for a period of 6 months. During that period, and as a requirement of having the licence, you will be required to undergo an additional 20 hours of training. This can either be 20 hours with us, or can be that we supervise you for 20% of the lessons you deliver.
This 20 hours or 20% MUST be carried out within the first 3 months of the valid date of your pink licence and you must have applied to take your Part 3 test within that period as well.
You are permitted three attempts at your Part 3 test. If you fail all three, you have to begin the whole test process again, but will have to wait until 2 years have expired from the date that you passed the theory test.
If you have not completed and passed all three tests within a two year period from when you passed the theory test you will have to start the whole process again.
At the end of the initial contract period you will have the option to remain a franchisee and the weekly fees will reduce based on current pricing at the time.
